What Causes A Car To Overheat?
There are many reasons a car can overheat. Here is a list we hope you find helpful.
- Vehicle is low on coolant, or out of coolant.
- Leaking, blocked, or ruptured coolant hose.
- Worn or loose belts.
- Broken water pump impellor.
- The radiator is cracked or leaking.
- The radiator fan clutch or electric motor is faulty.
- The radiator is clogged internally or externally.
- Newer cars have louvers in front grille for cooling that may cause issues.
- A low engine oil level.
- A plugged exhaust pipe or catalytic converter.
- The thermostat is stuck.
- The head gasket or other engine issues are causing the problem.
- The camshaft timing is incorrect.
- The ignition timing is incorrect.
- The fuel system is too lean.
A service center will test these components and systems to determine the issue and the cost to repair. Some tests are easy and some not. Some shops will have a fee for the time-consuming testing, so please make sure you understand what is being done.
